Change – Fiction

She sat on the park bench, sipping water after her run.

The workout hadn’t helped suppress those raging emotions.

Change is a strange thing. Some hate it. Some embrace it.

Sometimes.. it happened. Slowly. Sandpapering her heart in such a way that she was not the same any more.

Sometimes, it’s a lot quicker…like shards of glass cutting her soul… ensuring that the change happens.

And when that did…

She found she’d changed but life around her hadn’t.

People around her seemed different. Old friendships didn’t seem real anymore…

Relationships seemed different.

There was that sense of restlessness that she couldn’t seem to quell…

That overwhelmed her when she least expected it…

That pushed for her feet to move in a different direction…

That wanted her to explore..do  so much more with her life…

That called for some big risk taking

And she went on …ignoring the change.. ignoring her heart..

refusing the get out of that comfort zone..her comfortable roles… and accept who she truly was…

but she couldn’t  ignore it forever…

every night .. when the lights went out…

she lay in bed thinking….

it was last thought when she slept…

and the first when she woke up.

and then she’d try to quell  restlessness…

put on that mask she wore everyday…

And go out… and be the person she was expected to be.

and a coward.
